Also: I write postcards for the election and last week I received one of the kind of postcards I send (same message about getting out to vote)—but it was addressed to my mom (who died six years ago). I can't bear to throw it out. xo
The cover looks great. Grief is unpredictable - be kind to yourself. Several months after my dad passed away, I burst into tears watching Coda on a flight from Rome to New York. And then I started laughing because it was so ridiculous that I was sitting on a plane crying over a movie. Thankfully, I had a very sympathetic seatmate.
LOVE the cover! Also, re TSA status — Chattanooga is such a small airport that the security lines move really fast and there's usually just one person at the ID checkpoint. And that person alternates letting in Precheck travelers and us mere plebes, one at a time, like a zipper merge. And the anger some of the precheck people show at having to wait an extra 30 seconds to go behind someone who doesn't have their special ID is always very hilarious to me. Like, you aren't saving time, because there's no line anyway! Also, the Emily books >>>>>>> Anne books.
And this sentence: “It’s interesting to me that people who find life-long privileges eroding don’t think to question the existence of those privileges, but instead demonize those they believe are usurping them.” Yes! This! May the questioners outnumber the demonizers.🤞
Love everything about the post, especially when you courageously and honestly shared about your grief. We don’t talk about that enough. Can’t wait for the new novel. (On a selfish note: I miss when you posted the Domino sugar sign each day on Twitter during your walks. Although I abandoned the Twitter/X hellhole about two years ago, I still wave to the sign and hope you’re doing well when my husband and I drive by on I-95 to see friends once or twice a year. Bluesky, at least so far for me, is akin to the golden age of Twitter. Just saying.)
FANTASTIC cover! (The first online order I ever placed with Target was for my mom, and now every interaction I have with Target dot com begins “Dear Sandi.” Thinking I may need to deep dive and correct that… 😳)
When I saw that selfie, I intended to write, “Careful, people will mistake you for Jordan Baker.” Then I read what followed. Well done. We saw Gatz last night so the period was on my mind.
For me, it’s those damn Memories on Facebook. Today one popped up with me and my mom at a niece’s wedding. We looked fabulous. And her mind was still there. I love and hate those memories forced on me by Zuck.
Both cover and hair look great, IMHO.

I’m going to believe it was a message from her to you. 💕
Love that idea. xo

Search for "scientific explanation crying on airplanes" -- you (we) are not alone!

Hey Laura. Did you remember Cicada Song Press on Twitter?
I did! And Twitter claims we are following each other now. (Hard to trust Twitter these days.)
ModPo for life! ;)
Love the cover. Jazzed for the new book.
